Florida delivers most Medicaid services through Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC), administered by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). SMMC has three components: Managed Medical Assistance (MMA) for primary and acute care, Long-Term Care (LTC) for nursing facility and home-based services, and a statewide dental program. On February 1, 2025, Florida launched SMMC 3.0, restructuring the program from 11 numbered regions down to 9 lettered regions (A through I), with new contracts running through 2030; AmeriHealth Caritas Florida was not among the plans awarded in the new MMA contracts. Unlike some single-payer states, though, Florida's overall commercial market isn't flagged as one of the least competitive in the country, since other national carriers maintain a real presence across the state's large, fast-growing population.
